It's been a year and a half since the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic hit so suddenly leaving families jobless which eventually turned many lives upside-down leading them down a path to homelessness and deeper poverty. With so many Americans being effected feeling stuck and no where to turn while anticipating on the government to come up with an solution to permanently help the American people one citizens from a local Las Vegas community take matter's into her own hands and created "We must Do For Our Self Coalition" Skylete Brown started this movement back in October 2020 while visiting her daughter(who also own and operate her own nonprofit organization)"Gifted By Helping Hands" Brown goal is to bring change and growth to herself and others in the community who are suffering from the pandemic. Brown said, she's originally from Richmond California and lived in a couple of other cities through out Contra Costa County until her recent out of state move to Las Vegas in May. She plans to open a second nonprofit in her home town soon. We asked Skylete how did she get so much recognition and support. She replied, you never know who's watching you. Upon moving to Las Vegas and the visits in between my son met some really cool friends and one of his friends grandfather is a basketball coach for a professional NBA team who i met at the family Bar B Que we was invited to and it started from being asked questions about my employment and what i do for a living. At first i was really uncomfortable when the coach asked where i worked. My reply was "I don't,,, i run a nonprofit organization" He laughed at my response i didn't know what to say or how to feel at first until he said, that's work! "you much really enjoy what you're doing if it doesn't feel like work young lady tell me more about your services" which i went on to explain how i first became a notary and notorized documents for free in the low income communities and took credit repair courses to repair my own credit and started offering those services for free besides the food, clothes and shoe give aways which i fund from my Forex Trading. I also give encouraging words an counsel people on certain life issues their are going through that's in my scope of practice if not i point them to who will help them. I once use to drink and party a lot being a product of my environment and one day i said, im hurting myself and my family something needs to change and it start's with me. I was too proud to get counseling from a professional cause that would mean i would have to discuss the deep wounds with him or her when i rather address my abuser personally. So i started studying drug and alcohol counseling courses and applied that to myself i counseled myself, i had long talks with myself, i questioned myself i even had to answer to myself it was one of the hardest thing in life and im more than happy i done it. In the black communities we don't get counseling despite all the trauma me go through counseling is something we don't seek. In my household i always heard not to put the white man in our business these are the generational curses we must break in order to elevate to a higher level of consciousness we must do for our self to raise above this poverty level and this is what my organization is about. My organization is open to anyone who needs the services we offer. My next goal is to open a shelter for single father's. I personally don't feel like it's enough resources for the men like there is for the women out there. It's a lot of single father's who need help and resources that just not available as compared to the women and i want to bring change to that as well father's are just as important than mother so the resources should be equally available.
