Fortnite is one of the most well known games in the gaming community. Despite the excessive amount of hate that the game got, it was a very successful game around 2018-2019. The fast-paced, battle royal game flew up the charts and was being played by millions of gamers all over the world! However, this beloved and hated game is coming to an end.
By late 2019, another game called Minecraft, with a different objective, started skyrocketing the charts ever so closer to Fortnite. This was also around the time that the game was starting to die. For as a gamer named Rick Archie said in an interview, “The game simply just got boring. It was like nothing exciting was happening,” he says, “[and] they started stealing a bunch of stuff from so many games.” Fortnite began blindly copyrighting and stealing cosmetics such as skins, pickaxes, ect, without any credit of some sort. This did anger players. By November of 2019, Fortnite was losing 2 million players a month! There were many attempts by the game to revive it, such as a Star Wars event, however all attempts failed, and the game has simply “died.”
What does this mean for the future of the game? Nothing good for Epic Games. Epic Games recently announced that, “With the multiple lawsuits and decrease in players, we will have to shut down our game in hopes to recover from the game.” Epic Games announced by late 2020, the game will have their last update, and from there, the game will be deleted. As for the future of Epic Games, they will have other games to focus their attention on, but that attention shall no longer be on this game.
