On the 27th March 2020, Whatsapp closed all the servers due to it may have been compromised.

After their investigation, they announced that over 72 Million people’s data might have been accessed, including: passwords, usernames, phone number, email address and home location. “If your house has recently been burglarized, find what was stolen before calling the police.” -Mark Zuckerburg

On March 28th, Whatsapp reopened their servers but it is limited to 6 000 people per country. Whatsapp stated that the data accessed was encrypted but half of the data was unfortunately not. Whatsapp warns everybody to pay good attention to unknown messages being recieved to their phone number, email and bank.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Whatsapp said that it will take longer than usual to restore all servers to full capacity. They also said that they will add an extra layered of encryption, security and monitoring services to prevent this from happening again. Until most data has been recovered, the limitation will increase to more and more people logged on per country.

Whatsapp will continue monitoring this issue. The hackers for this issue is unknown.
Be careful what you do on Whatsapp!
