The wait is over. Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has been traded to the Colorado Avalanche

Carey Price and his hefty $10.5 million AAV will make their trip to Mile High City where it is likely that Price will make his first start an Avalanche Friday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the same team that Price recently conceded a controversial overtime goal from Brandon Tanev

In return, the Canadiens get Stanley Cup winning goaltender Philipp Grubauer until the end of next season, former 4th overall pick and left-handed defenseman in Bowen Byram, former first overall pick defenseman Erik Johnson, and a conditional 3rd round draft pick in this year's entry draft. The condition is that the 3rd round draft pick becomes a 2nd round draft pick if the Avs make it passed the second round, and the 2nd will then become a first round draft-pick if the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup

The Canadiens will have to pay Johnson $6 million until the end of the 2022-23 season. Meanwhile, Grubauer may be what the Habs need in order to build up future goaltenders like Charlie Lindgren and Cayden Primeau, more likely the latter of the two. And finally, Bowen Byram may be the answer to Montreal's left side of the blue line and, in general, what the Canadiens need if they look to get younger.

This marks the second blockbuster trade of the season following the Taylor Hall trade from back in December.
