The Chicago Police Department released surveillance footage and still photographs Monday from a 2019 killing in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, hoping someone recognizes a man who emerges from a white SUV and starts running with what appears to be a handgun.
The shooting happened on Dec. 30 in the 2100 block of E. 69th Street about 11:25 a.m. A 45-year-old man was shot and survived but a 23-year-old, Joseph L. Wright, was killed in the attack. Both were taken to University of Chicago hospital. The video released shows two men running from an SUV, both of whom appear to be carrying handguns or small objects at their right sides. Both are carrying handguns, according to police. The surveillance footage is timestamped 11:13 a.m. The person police are seeking to identify, nearest the camera lens, is believed to be the person who shot and killed Wright, according to Chicago police. The second person in the video is believed to have shot the surviving victim in the same attack. A statement from the Chicago Police Department said the second person in the video is being sought, but the person shot is not cooperating with detectives and police only highlighted the man suspected in the killing in their It’s also not clear why the surveillance video was released almost ten months after the shooting. Police declined to answer why.
