On April 2, 2021, a major decision was taken. Indeed, the rugby world cup that was supposed to take place in all of France will not take place in all of France. The rugby league and president René Bouscatel decided, to congratulate the city for its involvement in rugby for its support to the French national team. The matches that should have taken place in the Stade de France, the velodrome stadium and the most beautiful stadiums in France will all take place at the Champlevert stadium in Mâcon. This decision by the government makes the people of Mâcon (the Mâconnais) very happy. This is explained by a local resident who is also a rugby player at the Mâcon club (ASMâcon): "We are really pleased with this decision. This is an incredible opportunity for us. The city of Macon that was dying out is going to get back on its feet, and your economy is going to explode." explains Basile Pourret during an interview. This is very great news for this city and its people, and they are really excited about it.
