La reivindicación se extiende hasta la localidad de Yecla de Yeltes ya que en este municipio se une el Yeltes al río Huebra para continuar juntos hasta desembocar en el río Duero.
No afecta al otro afluente, río Camaces, ya que se une al Huebra por su margen izquierda,
Fuentes portuguesas basan su soberanía en documentos datados en el siglo XII, donde el río Yeltes citado como "Yieltes" en el fuero otorgado a Ledesma por el rey Fernando II de León en el año 1161y que posteriormente fue cedido al conde de Portugal, Alfonso Enríquez, y que más tarde fue el primer rey de Portugal
