Martin Luther King, Jr., was a Baptist minister and social rights activist in the United States in the 1950s and '60s. He was a leader of the American civil rights movement. He organized a number of peaceful protests as head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, including the famous March on Washington. In 1964 he won the Nobel Peace Prize, and, at the time, he was the youngest person to have done so. Martin Luther King, Jr., influenced people around the world. He organized a number of marches and protests and was a key figure in the U.S. civil rights movement. He was instrumental in the Memphis sanitation workers' strike, the Montgomery bus boycott, and the March on Washington.
