On 4 June 2020, American singer and songwriter Celine Dion was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in Los Angeles, California. Three others were killed and were identified as two women and a Spanish man named Jonaz Wardé. Sightings of the helicopter were reported by police in Las Vegas, Nevada with paparazzi arrested in connection with them as officer Derrick Paul of the Las Vegas Police Department stated:
“I had been out on duty with the other officers when I saw Celine Dion sitting in a helicopter that had began takeoff. Some paparazzi were trying to photograph her so I and the other police pulled them back as Celine didn’t want to be photographed because the world knows that she was so famous.” At around 4:23am on 4 June, the pilot of the helicopter warned the passengers that he was going to crash because of bad weather and poor visibility. The other passengers accepted because they had parachutes, but Dion and the passengers who died with her didn’t have parachutes because they thought there wouldn’t have been a crash. A minute later at 4:24, the pilot lost control and ejected, resulting in the helicopter plunging to the ground. Police evidence stated the helicopter crashed into the field at a fast pace and exploding into a fireball, killing all four on board instantly. A 24 year old bystander, identified as Rick Barton called the Los Angeles Fire Department, who arrived minutes later. Police officers Eric Baseman, 21 and James Robinson, 18, arrived to inspect the wreckage and found the four bodies inside. The coroner confirmed Dion’s cause of death had been traumatic brain injury, torn spleen, lacerated lungs, internal bleeding and blunt force trauma resulting from the impact of the crash and explosion of the helicopter. The Los Angeles police made an inquest into her death, reporting there were sightings of the singer in Las Vegas, months before the crash, and there were no sightings after it happened. Derrick Paul, the officer from the Las Vegas Police Department who spotted Dion seized the footage, stating he would release it some time later, we don’t know when, but the evidence still exists out there.
