Yesterday, May 21st, 2020, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver stood alongside with President Shareef Abdur-Rahim and associates and announced that the NBA will be shutting down; forever. Silver said "This global pandemic has caused us to lose a large amount of money, and we continue to lose more every day. It is with heavy hearts that I and my fellow business partners announce that starting next Thursday, the NBA will begin shutting down." Thousands came to protest at the NBA headquarters in New York, demanding that the organization stay open. Lebron James posted on his Twitter feed this morning stating "I am terribly sorry that the NBA executives have decided to come to this decision. I would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me for the last 17 years of my career. Stay safe everyone." Lots of basketball fans have also posted on social media, in an uproar of anger. CEO Derek Chang says "We are deeply saddened having to make this decision, but it is one that has already been made, and will not be changed."
