The latest figures from the the houses of parliament show that the number of cases of the COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed to over 100,000 since yesterday.

The health secretary, Matt Hannock, made a statement about it at 12:00 pm GMT on Wednesday the 8th of April 2019.

In this statement, he said, " With the prime minister still in intensive care, we as a parliament have struggled to keep meetings in order to further extend lockdown measures, therefore, the number of COVID- 19 cases in the UK have surpassed 100,000."

"To further combat the spread of this virus, we have decided to put in place an emergency COBRA meeting with the prime minister on a call, to decide which further measures will be put in place."

He then went on to remind the public of the importance of washing hands and social distancing.
