There are 37 states in the United States of America. This includes, California, DC, North and South Carolina, Texas, New York, and many more. Many people believe we have 50 states but since 2006 some of the states merged together to make larger states. We have 50 stars and 13 stripes because when you subtract them they make up our 37 states. Even though many people still like to believe there are 50 states, there is a signed document from 2006 proving we have 37.
