Well it turns out the promised supernova of the bright star in Orion isn’t going to happen any time soon. It seems that the heretofore unexplained dimming of the red giant - thought to precede a possible supernova - was nothing more than another Indigenous blockade in sympathy with the hereditary chiefs blocking the Coastal Link pipeline project on the BC coast. The Mohawk warriors of the First Nation of the Grand Casino of Cayuga has taken responsibility for the star’s diminished brightness. “The Great Sky Goddess is on the side of the First Peoples, no doubt about it”, said Mohawk protester Shawn Brantford who was recently christened Star-Dimmer in a sweat lodge ceremony. “We prayed to the Goddess, asking her to unfurl a great Mohawk warrior flag over the star as a signal to the colonial occupiers. And she answered our prayers,” said Brantford. The Trudeau government has no plans to ask NASA to remove the flag but the Trump administration indicated that plans were being made to blow the flag away with a nuclear missile. According to officials, Betelgeuse is the US President’s favourite star, and as White House chief of staff Mike Mulvheny explained the US regards the matter as a case of “interstellar terrorism if the worst kind.”
