In the first term of 2011 the world experienced such cyber-attacks that have never taken place before. In an organizational and technological sense such a background could be observed which unambiguously demonstrated that organized crime, or the support of certain states aid cyber criminals to have more leverage.
Just like other attackers, APT groups try to steal data, disrupt operations or destroy infrastructure. Unlike most cyber criminals, APT attackers pursue their objectives over months or years. They adapt to cyber defenses and frequently target the same victim. However just because you have APT-linked malware variants in your system doesn't mean that you're an APT target(you could used as back door into the main target).Your security team should be aware of this list of the most active APT groups and take extra precautions when they detect malware linked to previous APT attacks; that would provide a solid background through the media to the people and groups called hackers.
Previously isolated attacks could be observed, through the method of the attacks, it can be detected more easily, and the extent of damages caused was significantly lower. Shalom!!!
