With the new school year beginning that means it is time for the new rules to be enforced, from parking rules, to extra time added to the day but by far the one going viral around FHS is about to get much worse for students. FHS has created a new rule this year regarding cell phones, as you have probably know students are not happy at all with this new rule enforcement. The previous rule at the beginning of the year was every student must put their cell phone into a cell phone holder at the beginning of class and the students are not allowed to get their phone back until the end of class. But after the first couple weeks of school FHS is still not satisfied with the new rule. So starting on the first day of second quarter students will be required to turn in their cell phones at the beginning of the day to their house office and now students will not be able to get their cell phones back until the end of the school day. Students currently struggle to stay off their cell phone for a little over an hour, but let's see how they will react to not having phones for about 7 hours. Rebellious students now deal with the phone policy by refusing to turn in their phone in at the beginning of class but the new policy will check in your phone every day and to be marked present your phone must be checked in at your house office. A mandatory form will be required for parents to fill out to see what students have a phone, this will make sure all students that do have a phone will have to check in that phone with the school. FHS is also adding an additional school rule to this new policy just incase if someone does sneak a phone into class, this new rule is that if any student is caught on a phone or with a phone without a faculty consent the student will receive an hour detention. This new rule will be enforced to make sure students will have no distractions during school hours, and get the students off something that is taking up many hours of their lives. FHS staff understands that this rule may cause some parents and students to be upset but this is a step the school must take after may to many violations of the old phone policy. If a parent or guardian needs to contact a student during school hours the parent or guardian will have to call the students house office and their message will be delivered to the student as soon as possible. Will this policy be the beginning of a new era for high schools or will this rule fall through?
