The highly loved Southport pier is one of the most well known attractions based in Merseyside, it is also known as the second longest pier in all of England. Many of the residents in Southport said that they are glad the ‘nasty eyesore’ and ‘rust bridge’ will be gone after the towns council spending millions of pounds a year maintaining it. The scrapping of the pier will allow the town to create more business and possibly even more housing. The town of Southport has also been received less tourists in the last 10 years due to the town being classed as a sea side town but actually only seeing the sea once a month and the pier becoming more of a useless bridge leading to a dead end
