In a surprising move out of a local yoga studio in Regina, Saskatchewan, physical postures will no longer be taught in yoga classes. Studio owners Sarah Garden and Colin Hall released a public statement early Monday morning in which they said:

"Yoga related injuries are a growing problem in the Canadian yoga community. We have determined that it is yoga postures which are the primary culprit and have decided to take the lead in the movement to de-pose yoga."

Hall believes that the authentic yoga practices of meditation and pranyama in simple seated poses should be sufficient to sustain Canada's thriving yoga scene.

"Everybody knows that yoga is 5000 years old, but fewer know that the practice of postures really only dates back a 1000 years or so. We are saying that if de-posed yoga was good enough for 4000 years of yogis, it should be good enough for us."

The de-pose yoga movement has been quietly gaining momentum in Canadian yoga studios for a few months now. Hall and Garden are planning a De-Posing Yoga National Conference in the fall of 2019 as well as launching an online journal to feature news and opinion from members of the de-posing movement, who are sometimes called "de-posers."
