La consola será bastante parecida a su antecesora, pero contará con un mando (control), similar al de Switch y con una tableta con pantalla renovada, que permitirá ver gráficos en 4k, hacer llamadas y continuar con la partida cuando otra persona desee ver un programa en la pantalla de televisión, siempre y cuando se mantenga la tableta a una determinada distancia de la base, entre otras cosas.
Entre los primeros juegos que estarán disponibles para la Wii U 2 se encuentran: Sonic Generations 2, Call of Duty (exclusivo), Super Smash Bros Reloaded y Mario Galaxy 3.
Será totalmente compatible con Wii, Wii U y Switch.
Se estima que estará disponible en el mercado en algún momento entre abril y diciembre de 2019, aunque aún no se ha publicado su precio.
